Purchase procedures for departments to custom order Apple computers.
|
Step 1: To start a web proposal, point your browser at: www.apple.com/education/store You will be creating a proposal for your department and using department funds to pay, so click on the link on the right-hand side of the page under 'Purchasing for your institution'. (Note that if this system is for your own personal use and you are paying with personal funds then you would use the selection under 'Education Savings for You'.) |

Step 2: You'll see two options on the next screen. One is to log in as an authorized purchaser and the other is to create a proposal. You will want to create a proposal. Click on the 'Create Quote' button. |

Step 3: The circled text on the right may or may not appear depending on whether your browser has visited the Apple Education store before. If the circled text appears then just click on the 'Yes' button. Otherwise you will have to find the UW-Madison store, see instructions below. |

|
Step 6: You'll see a list of all sorts of higher education institutions in the Madison area, you'll want to click on 'University of Wisconsin-Madison', then click on the 'Continue' button. (If you end up creating a proposal for some other school or if you create a proposal on the personal purchase site, we at DoIT won't be able to look it up. What's worse is that the pricing on your proposal may not be the lowest available to you as an education buyer. Not to worry though as we at DoIT can usually recreate the proposal correctly and then double-check with you to make sure all is accurate.) |

Step 7: You're now in the store, as evidenced by the 'University of Wisconsin-Madison' text at the top. So you're finally in the store and ready to start selecting the items you want. Let's say you want a MacBook Pro. Click on the picture of the MacBook Pro. |

Step 10: One last chance to add any accessories other customers purchased! At this point you are ready to create the web proposal. You can click on either: 'Proposal,' or 'Edit your cart,' or 'Continue'. They will all lead to the next screen. (Note that if you are not ready to create a proposal, you can click on 'Save for later'. You can then come back at a later time to work on your configuration. You won't however have created a proposal.) |

Step 11: Finally, the Proposal page. Note that creating a proposal does not actually commit you to purchase anything. You are only creating a proposal, or quote, with a fixed configuration and price. (There is no particular amount of time the proposal is good for, but eventually items on a quote will become unorderable if Apple makes a change in their product line-up. So the sooner you submit your quote, the more likely you'll get exactly what you're asking for.) The important button here is 'Create proposal'. This will actually make a proposal that we at DoIT will be able to come back to at a later time and order. When you click on 'Create proposal' you'll see the next screen. |

Step 12: You'll now need to sign in. If you have never visited the Apple Store before you are going to have to create an AppleID. This is usually just based on your email address. Click on the 'New Account' button to do so and follow the instructions. You will eventually get to the next screen. If you already have an AppleID then enter it now and click on the 'Sign In' button. |

Step 13: Here's where you enter some details. Only a few of these fields are required. You must enter a first and last name. That can either be your name or the name of the person this system is for. You must enter a school. The phone number is required. You must enter a Purchasing Agent's address. This is the email of the person at DoIT who will be processing your order. Please enter 'apple-sales@doit.wisc.edu' for this field. If you enter the wrong address then DoIT may never know you've created a web proposal. You can optionally enter your email address, you will receive an email copy of your proposal. Comments are optional but you can put payment details in there if you like. A DoIT number is OK but if you are using a procard then just make a note of that as shown and we'll call you for the numbers. In fact you don't have to enter any payment information at all. Once we receive your web proposal we will notify you to find out how you want to pay and where you want your items shipped. About shipping, there is no charge for Apple to ship this directly to your campus address via standard shipping. If you want express shipping please let us know and we will arrange that for you and let you know the cost. Be aware that your order must ship to a Wisconsin address. If the intended recipient is outside of Wisconsin then you must take delivery of the ordered items locally and arrange shipping out of state yourself. Press the 'Continue' button to create your proposal. |

Step 14: Finally, the web proposal has been created. It has been assigned an Apple web proposal number and in a few minutes a copy of your proposal will end up in DoIT's email box as well as yours if you entered an address on the previous screen. When we receive proposals we will try and contact you shortly to find out how you want to pay and where you want Apple to deliver your system. Any questions about this process please contact: |
