Microsoft Work at Home

Microsoft Work at Home (WAH) rights permit faculty and staff to use Microsoft Office and Windows licensed under the UW’s Campus Agreement on their home computer for work-related purposes only.

• While the Campus Agreement is in effect, faculty and staff have the right to use any version of Microsoft Office for Windows or Macintosh or the Windows OS Upgrade.
• The license under which the software’s use is permitted is an extension of the license under which the faculty or staff person uses the software on their school-owned computer. The license is not owned by the individual faculty or staff person.
• Non-knowledge workers such as groundskeepers, maintenance, cafeteria, and mailroom workers are ineligible for Work at Home rights if they were not included in the Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) employee calculation for the UW's Campus Agreement.
• Installation Media
• Only individually-keyed media may be used to install WAH software.
• Volume license media, such as that used by UW departments to install Office and Windows, may not be used to install software licensed under the WAH provision.
• Media specifically for WAH use is available for purchase and distribution by UW-Madison departments through WISC and the Tech Store.
• After purchasing media, departments may distribute one copy of each applicable media set to authorized faculty or staff.
• One copy of the installation media would be required for each home installation.
• Faculty and staff must remove the software from their home machine and return or destroy installation media immediately upon the earlier of:
• expiration of the Campus Agreement under which the software is licensed
• the end of their employment at UW-Madison
